The I International Conference on Cultural Diversity and Conflicts in the European Union, organised by University of Valencia's Human Rights Institute under the direction of professor Ángeles Solanes, took place in Valencia (Spain) on October 2-3, 2014. The meeting aimed at fostering scientific debate and the exchange of ideas about integration and the equal enjoyment of fundamental rights in contemporary European multicultural societies. It was attended by over 50 social workers, academics, psychologists, police officers, activists and students.
The consolidated group of academics who take part in the R&D project "Human rights, multicultural societies and confllicts" was joined by legal scholars and other specialists from Spain, Italy, France and the United Kingdom, as well as by various social intervention professionals. Priority issues such as urban policies, interethnic violence, family dynamics, intercultural mediation and the cinematographic representation of minorities were addressed from a range of analytical perspectives and geographic horizons.
